Private Instruction with a Professional Teacher

Piano (Adults), Organ, Violin, Voice (ages 14+)

Description: Students are given weekly lessons by highly trained professional instructors. Instructors have advanced degrees in their instrument and significant teaching experience. Lesson times may be arranged for thirty (30), forty-five (45), or sixty (60) minutes. There is one recital opportunity at the end of each fall and spring semester. The curriculum includes development of performance skills, technique, theory and general musicianship. The fall and spring semesters last for 16 weeks. The summer session is 8 lessons, unless otherwise arranged with the teacher. Fees will be pro-rated if the student begins lessons after the semester start date. All lessons are taught at the UH main campus.

Requirements: Commitment to the program is preferred for the entire year or three (3) semesters. Attendance at all lessons is expected. To ensure success, students should practice daily for at least the length of their lesson.

The rates for the Private Instruction Program with a Professional Teacher are based on an hourly rate of $56/hr for instruction. Additional fees include a $25 registration fee per student (or $40 registration fee per family) per semester. Additional fees for books and other materials vary.

Private Instruction with a Student Teacher

Instructor: by referral

Fall (16 weeks), Spring (16 weeks), & Summer (8 weeks)

 

Piano, Acoustic and Electric Guitar, Jazz Piano, Theory, and Violin

Description: Students are given weekly lessons by student instructors. All instructors have received their undergraduate degrees and are masters students at the university. Lessons are taught at the UH main campus. Lesson times may be arranged for thirty (30), forty-five (45), or sixty (60) minutes. Instructors design lesson plans appropriate to the student's skill level. There is one recital held at the end of each fall and spring semester. The curriculum includes development of performance skills, technique, theory and general musicianship. This program is a 16-week commitment in the fall and spring and an 8-week commitment in the summer session. Lessons can be pro-rated if the student begins after the semester start date.

Requirements: Commitment to the program is expected for the entire school year or two (2) semesters. Summer study is strongly encouraged. Attendance at all lessons and recitals is required. To ensure success, students should practice daily for at least the length of their lesson.
